About This Project

The Venus of Urbino is a canonical painting from the 1500s by Titian. This work, in many ways, came to define the Italian Renaissance. I’ve always loved this painting, and have long wanted to create a homage and a reworking of this painting. As a photographer and a movement teacher, my gift is my sight and my gaze, and I also create works of art that will be stared at, freezing the subject forever in a moment in time. I asked friends and muses to come and give me their take on being “gazed upon”. What you see is their take on sexuality, femininity, gaze and agency.
